Marry The Moisturizer: What Lady Gaga Can Teach You About Skincare
January 2nd, 2012For anyone who knows anything about today’s music, Lady Gaga is right on the tips of their lips. She’s a legendary pop icon, taking over the world with her lyrics and dynamite voice. But is she taking over the world of skincare too? Her skincare regiment currently consists of eating lots of vegetables, using mozzarella for her pasta dishes (and on her face!), along with falling asleep with her make-up still on. Supposedly, she doesn’t use traditional skincare, such as moisturizer, as she has “been blessed with good genes.” Is this a fad that we should be following? Here’s a break down of whether she’s going to always keep that beautiful Poker Face or if she will fall off The Edge of Glory and ruin her good skin.
First off, lets talk about the vegetables. Gaga has gushed over her love for eating green stuff, especially spinach, and has referred it as playing a role in her good skincare. And it looks like she’s got a good point there. Spinach is a natural astringent, helping to minimize your skin pores. This allows moisturizer to retain better in your skin, while also making it more difficult for oil to congeal in your pores. Other veggies are full of minerals, vitamins, and other useful properties to aid in skincare. So have seconds of the green stuff at meals, and you’ll be seeing quite a difference.
Now, mozzarella on your face… that’s a little weird, even for the reigning Queen of Pop. But then again, she was able to look beautiful in a meat dress. So let’s look more into what mozzarella can do for your skin. When it comes to eating mozzarella cheese, the largest benefit that it provides towards skin care is zinc. Zinc acts like an on-call medical service for your skin, repairing any damage that’s been done. And mozzarella is one of the best sources for the mineral! However, when it comes to placing it directly on your skin, it doesn’t seem to do much, except make you look a little silly. So apply the moisturizer for the outside, and the cheese for the inside.
Finally, we’ve all heard that you should NEVER EVER go to bed with your make-up still on. However, Lady Gaga believes that, because of good genes, she won’t have to deal with the consequences. Well, despite having good genes, the damage is on its way. At 25, Gaga’s skin is still able to combat the clogging effects of base and cover-up, combined with the sweat from performing, while also repairing from the stress of her environment and physical activity (the woman is traveling across the globe, performing at sold-out stadiums, I’d say she’s very stressed!) If she wants to keep her skin as fresh as her style, then she needs to stop leaving her make-up on, for the sake of her future skin.
Lady Gaga is a powerful woman, raising the bar for fashion, music, and so many other elements of our culture. But when it comes to skincare, listen to your doctors rather than pop icons. Use moisturizer, wash off your make-up at night, and eating well are the key steps to soft skin.
